I started learning Bass in 1980 - my parents bought me a White Fender MusicMaster on the condition I take lessons. and I did! And I’m glad I did. The only thing I wasn’t so keen on was that I’m LEFT HANDED and the bass was right handed and re-strung .... looked funny. But 6 months later I found a LEFT HANDED Black MusicMaster, and there was no turning back.

I love to share the passion, I love to play - I love to teach someone who is as keen as I was back then ( and still am!). I had a couple of GREAT teachers - thanks David and Clive!

You can see my '78 4001 Ric, Hofner Icon Series , EpiphoneSpecial II (electric guitar) and I'm holding a G&L L. 2000. The Ric and G&L were bought second hand but were in excellent condition (both made in USA). I've had the Ric serviced and new treble pickup, and it's better than when I got it.

I started learning Bass in 1980, and started playing in bands in '84. I've owned a few good Basses but have to say the G&L is the best - feel, action and sound. But of course, the Rickenbacker gets the sentimental winning prize. Note the upside down neck inlays and headstock. I wanted a Ric ever since I first decided to play bass .... actually, I think Bass chose me!

The Hofner is one of the new 'Icon' series ...made in China ( I've taken the pearl pickguard off ....will put it back on soon). I did actually have a German 500/1, circa 1970's, and I can tell you this one sounds pretty close, which is good for the price. And it's new with a 'bullet' case :-) I have a case for each bass ....right handers don't understand that L/H non-symmetrical Basses actually do need a case that properly accomodates the instrument.

My basses:

G&L L.2000, made in USA. I bought it second hand last year, and it's in excellent condition.

1978 Jetglo Rickenbacker 4001, also USA and bought second hand ten
years ago. Excellent condition. I've had it sep up a few times, including a new Ric treble pickup.

2008 Hofner Icon Series B-Bass. A copy of the 500/1, made in China and
it is a real Hofner, so affordable. I had a German 1970's Hofner a few years back, and this is very close in feel and sound. But I had to sell thae Geramn for some cash - the Icon Series model cost me only $A600, whereas the Deutsch ones are around $A2000.

Epiphone Special II electric guitar ( 2007?). I can play guitar at an
average level ....Bass is my 'zutreffende liebe' !!

Each left handed with their own case, except for the guitar.

At the moment I have a Laney RB3 65W Bass Amp. Good for practice and teaching, small gigs and I can connect an external speaker ( eg., 2 X 10") to spread the sound in a bigger room if needed. I'm not playing
in a band right now, but have do the odd gig here and there if a bass needed.

I spend a lot of time recording - desktop recording that is, using an
Apple Intel iMac, Logic Express, GarageBand with an M-Audio FireWire410 interface and a Behringer UMX49 MIDI controller. I recently downgraded my monitors ... I know have a pair of Samson Media O-N-E. It's a lot of fun. To hear some of my work, you can visit http://www.reverbnation.com/ellscatz
( 'Ellscatz' is a name I thought up and use for my solo wor)k. but
most of the bass is software ( played via MIDI ...helps keep the file size down and easier to edit). Some have real bass - I love to slap, such as in 'True to You'.
