I'm a left handed bass player. I've been playing since '68 so I know all the
knocks against us. I play jazz mostly. I have custom basses, including my upright.
I have always wanted a Hofner but they are a bit to spendy for me right now, so I ordered
the Roque violin bass--I know its a silly toy bass, but I think every lefty bass player
should have a nod to Paul. :)
I play in jazz settings mostly here in the Seattle area. I also do theater work
from time totime. I have my own jazz trio http://www.geocities.com/jimfinkjazz/SwingShift.html
I'm quite easy about it all now after 35 years of playing. Being a lefty has its drawbacks
as well as its distinctions. Life would have been easier being a righty, but so it
goes.
The Rogue should arrive Thursday. I'm looking forward to it because it was an emotional
purchase--don't need another bass. It will be since 1973 I've had a hollow-body bass.
So I have a Ken Smith six with SIMs LEDs, Fender Jazz, USA Custom Guitar Jazz, Mike
Lull fretless five with SIMS LEDs, Strunel upright and soon the Rogue violin bass.
My string bass is a true lefty; the sound post and bass bar were installed properly.
The Fender is a Mexican issue. I had a tortise shell pick guard made and bought covers
to give it the 1964 look. I had a J-Retro pre-amp installed for a big punch. Its a
nice bass--still use it today. I guess it cost me around US$800.
The Rogue Beatle Bass is in the shop for a rewire. I don't like the controls so I'm
having it redone. The bass is very pretty, love to look at it. It has a very loud sound
with sharp highs and good lows. The short scale makes it fun to play. I love the light
weight of the hollow violin body. Its really a good bass, better than the 1960's Hofners.
