         Rick Carver
        Superior, Colorado USA
        Age 47

After a long "lay-off" (since 1971), Rick just last year picked up a bass
again! While attending some of the local open stage blues jams, I thought "Man,
I miss playing, I think I could play this stuff!".

Of course, when I did play, I could never afford a "left-handed" bass. So
        I re-strung right handed basses! I played both a Hofner (can't remember year/model...
Can't remember alot form the 60's & 70's!) and a Gibson EBO. At the time we lived
around Hays, Kansas. I played in a group called "Liquid Brick", which later
became "Cottonwood". We played mostly James Gang, Grand Funk Railroad, Santana,
Beatles stuff. Did gigs around the state, mostly bars and colleges.

My playing was interupted by the draft. I served two tours of Vietnam service. After
the military, I decided to focus on school and did not get back into music. Later,
I moved to Boulder, Colorado, got married and now have a wonderful wife and two son's
(who both love music). I currently work for IBM and travel alot, so I am finding it
difficult to do anything but open stage stuff. I must admit, picking up the bass has
added a great deal of relaxation to my life. I was amazed at how quickly I was able
        get back into it!

No fancy gear here. I play a black 1998 Fender P-BASS (American Standard) lefty. I
play through a SWR Workingman's 12. Just picked up a Goliath speaker cabinet to add
        some "balls". I am considering a 5-string,

Gotta admit, the gear has changed alot since the late 60's! More strings, gadgets and
gear! I really miss the warm sound of the older tube amps! Still enjoy bass players
that play good solid bass instead of sounding like frustrated guitar players! My advice
to you old timer's who layed down instruments years ago, is, don't be afraid to pick
it back up. You will find that it is great when you are under no pressure to play.

I am looking forward to jammin' with the kids as they get older. One plays keyboard,
the other (who is young yet) is showing a real interest in the guitar (He's a lefty
too). It will be a great excuse to buy a lefty Strat!
